I know that many of us keep a tally of our garden’s bounty but for the life of me I can’t seem to find a good way to do this.
I should clarify that statement.
I can’t find an application for the sidebar that would allow me to keep tally and have it here for visual reference and to share. Oh, I suppose I could simply create a spot and try to remember to update the log. But, I can’t see me keeping up all that well with it that way. I’d have to keep track in my spreadsheet and then take those totals to update here…. Hmmm. Nope not on a regular basis anyhow. Ah, well – If anyone knows of an easier way to update the blog with the totals let me know. Otherwise I’ll have to steal Daphne’s idea of Harvest Monday and make a Monthly Tally post. ;-) Of course then I’d have to figure out how to do the linky thing she’s got going on over there. That will create a whole other problem.
Back to the drawing board.
Hehe, back to the seed catalogs for that matter. Not that I have any intention of buying seeds. I don’t. I don’t think so anyhow. Certainly I have plenty for my puny little plot. Heck, I could probably plant it 3 times over must.stay.strong. Ah, my diagrams are calling –
‘Till next time!

I also need to come up with a better way of tracking my harvest totals. I developed a spreadsheet with seeds, dates, costs, number of plants, harvests. I do good until the harvesting begins. At the end of the season, I had to go back through all of my Harvest Monday posts and total everything up!!
ReplyDeleteMaybe I should develop and print out a sheet for just the harvests and keep it in the kitchen. I don't know...maybe I should get my hubby to come up with something...........there's and idea!
I just did a text box on my blog and made it the tally. I had a small garden so it was easy to update with the small amounts BUT I did have to remember to weigh whatever I harvested, add that to the tally, add the new stuff to it (which ended up getting really long...) and then would forget all together the little things I pulled out for the rabbits and whatnot. Then I just abandoned it all together. Though for this year I would like to do better since I'll be stepping it up and investing quite a lot, it would be nice to see if I break even with production.
ReplyDeleteSo, I have blathered and have been no help at all. Sorry! If you figure something out, please let us know!
I have to use containers for my herbs. My yard just doesn't have a place for a vegetable garden.:(
ReplyDeleteRobin- Let me know what he comes up with! I'm curious to see your spreadsheet. Hook a girl up, would ya?
ReplyDeleteCrystal- Yup. My first year trying to keep track of costs and such as well. I hope to keep up with it. Maybe a monthly tally is a good way to keep us all up to date.
BMKW- I love the picture of Bella in the snow. You could always put a couple things out in the front. You've got a hedge there. I bet you could get away with some bush beans or carrots and such there in with the ornamentals.
I'm going to keep a tally too, but the only way I know how is to make a text box... and I haven't been keeping up with my egg tally, so I don't know how well I'll do with vegetables. It's worth a try! :)
